No Frills Rapid Chess Tournament, December 2010

haji-5th-syakir 18 November 2010, Kuala Lumpur – Here is the new chess tournament for the 5th December 2010 from Excel Chess Academy. Only this time there is a late penalty fee if you come to the tournament hall late. So be at the hall well before 9.30 am.

  • There will be a national rated rapid chess tournament held in Excel Chess Academy on 5th of december 2010 (Sunday) over 5 rounds of 20 minutes plus 30 seconds incremental time.
  • Please register latest by 4th December 2010 (Saturday) through sms or email.
  • All players who register must arrive by 9.30 a.m.
  • Recording the games are compulsory for all players.
  • Entry fees will be RM 10.00 and a penalty of RM 5.00 will be charge for chess players who are late, so be punctual.
  • Certificates will be given only to players* who show progress in the national rating list(january 2011).

Lim Zhou Ren Wins Above 1400 Category, No Frills Tournament

7 November 2010, Kuala Lumpur – Here are the second group, above 1400 category of the November 2010 No Frills Chess Tournament held at the Excel Chess Academy on today at the Overseas Union Garden, Kuala Lumpur.

image There were 14 players that participated in this No-Frills Chess Tournament and Lim Zhou Ren (pix left) came out tops with 4.5 points from five rounds of play. He beat Jax Tham who end the tournament with 4.0 points in second place. Roshan Ajeet Singh finished in third place with 3.5 points, after losing to Jax Tham in the fifth and final round of the tournament.

Congratulations to the winners, participating players and the organiser for a highly successful No Frills Chess Tournament!

Yee Jian Yang Wins No Frills U-1400

7 November 2010, Kuala Lumpur – Here are the final two round results and final rankings after round 5 of the No-Frills Chess Tournament for the under-1400 category. The winner is Yee Jian Yang with 4.0 points.Second was Kung Soon Heng with 3.5 points and third, Cheong Yi Yao with 3.0 points.

No Frills Chess Tournament, Rounds 1-4

7 November 2010, Kuala Lumpur – There were 26 chess players that participated in the No Frills Chess Tournament held today at the Excel Chess Academy, Overseas Union Garden, Kuala Lumpur.

After two rounds of play, Kung Kah Heng was leading with two full points. He meets his brother Kung Soon Heng in the third round.

After three rounds of play, Yee Chiang Yang and Cheong Keat Zhen are leading with 3.0 full points and Kung Kah Heng faltering with a draw, dropped to third rank.

A Few End of Year Chess Tournaments 2010

1 November 2010, Kuala Lumpur – Here are a few upcoming chess tournaments and their annoucements for the attention of chess enthusiasts to consider to participate as follows:-

MSSM-Masterskill chess

The Polgar Chess Asia has postponed indefinitely the organising of the MSSM-Masterskill national scholastics chess championship that was scheduled for Nov 8-12 at the Masterskill University College campus in Ipoh. No Frills Chess Tournament

SJKC Jln Davidson open

The Cheras Chess Academy will hold a Fide-rated open tournament, limited to players with Fide ratings of 1,950 and below, at the Pusat Kecemerlangan Sukan Cochrane in Jalan Cochrane, Kuala Lumpur, from Nov 20-24. Penang Chess League

The Penang Chess Association will organise the annual Penang Chess League at SJK Cina Kheng Thean in Jalan Van Praagh, George Town, on Dec 4 and 5. Seven rounds, one-hour time control games. Open to the public sector, business community, factories, institutions of learning, and registered clubs and societies. Entry fees per team are RM150 (open category), RM90 (under-18 teams) and RM60 (under-12 teams). Entries close on Dec 1. Details from Tan Eng Seong (012-429 9517).

Penang open

The Penang Chess Association will organise the Penang Heritage City international open chess championship at the Penang City Hall in George Town, from Dec 8-12.
